Advanced Periodontal Instrumentation: LECTURE
presented by
Anna Pattison, RDH, MS
In the past five years significant developments in new high-tech devices, new hand instruments and ultrasonic tips have changed the way we practice. This presentation for dentists and dental hygienists provides detailed up-to-date information on the newest instruments and techniques that will enhance your ability to treat patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis. Periodontal endoscopy videos will show the effectiveness of various ultrasonic tips and hand instruments on residual, burnished calculus. New online instructional videos will demonstrate alternative fulcrums, new instruments and advanced techniques.
Outline
Root debridement: what are the latest concepts? Are viruses more important than bacteria?
The influence of the dental endoscope on instrument selection and sequence
Video comparing hand and ultrasonic instrumentation
Use of new Double Graceys, Micro Mini Fives, new Montana Jack and Nevi sickles, diamond-coated files, Quetin furcation curets, titanium implant instruments and other new periodontal instruments
Comparison of magnetostrictive and piezoelectric ultrasonic units and tip design
New subgingival air polishing technique for periodontal maintenance and implants
Innovative extraoral, reinforced, cross arch and opposite arch fulcrums and positions
New videos demonstrating the most effective techniques for furcations, deep pockets and use of both magnetostrictive and
piezoelectric ultrasonic tips
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course the enrollee should be able to:
Identify the objectives of periodontal debridement
Describe the characteristics of the dental endoscope
Recognize the design, indications and sequence for use of universal curets, Gracey curets, mini-bladed Gracey curets, new sickles, diamond coated instruments, furcation curets, implant instruments and other new instruments
Describe the differences between magnetostrictive and piezoelectric ultrasonic devices and tips
Describe the three most common clinical problems with instrumentation
Recognize the indications for extraoral, opposite arch or other alternative fulcrums
Advanced Periodontal Instrumentation: LECTURE & HANDS-ON WORKSHOP
presented by
Anna Pattison, RDH, MS
LECTURE COURSE ATTENDANCE IS A PREREQUISITE FOR THE HANDS ON WORKSHOP
This full day laboratory course for dentists and dental hygienists is designed to enhance your periodontal instrumentation, enabling you to treat patients with greater skill and confidence. This intensive hands-on experience features continuous live TV demonstration by Anna Pattison plus selected Pattison Institute videos. A team of experienced, attentive instructors will provide individualized instruction throughout the day.
Outline
Root planing exercises and root morphology review on extracted teeth
Keys to effective instrumentation technique
Sextant by sextant hands-on instrumentation experience on typodonts, with accurate root anatomy and periodontal defects
Use of the Gracey 15/16, Gracey 17/18, Extra Rigid Graceys, After Fives and Mini Fives, the new Micro Mini Fives, furcation curets, diamond coated files and other new instruments
Use of extraoral, reinforced, crossarch and opposite arch fulcrums
Innovative approaches for access to difficult problem areas such as furcations, line angles and deep, narrow pockets
Instrument sharpening: hands-on
Participants are asked to bring safety glasses, gloves and mask. It is advisable for attendees to not wear white clothing. Typodonts, poles, and complete instruction kits will be provided for use only during the course.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course the enrollee should be able to:
Describe the characteristics of a proper fit for gloves
Demonstrate close overlapping strokes on an extracted tooth with a Gracey curet
Recognize the design, indications and sequence for use of universal curets, Gracey curets, mini-bladed and Micro-mini-bladed Gracey curets, sickle scalers, files, furcation curets and diamond coated instruments
Demonstrate the use of universal curets, Gracey curets, mini-bladed and Micro-mini-bladed Gracey curets, sickle scalers, files, furcation curets and diamond coated instruments on a periodontal typodont
Demonstrate techniques for scaling maxillary and mandibular furcations
Demonstrate intraoral, finger-on-finger, extraoral, opposite arch and reinforced fulcrums
Demonstrate proper sharpening techniques for curets and sickles
